Some of the most important poets in Middle English Literature are Geoffrey Chaucer (The Canterbury Tales, Troilus and Criseyde), John Gower (Confessio Amantis), William Langland (Piers Plowman), John Lydgate (Siege of Thebes, The Troy Book), Thomas Hoccleve (Regiment of Princes), and the anonymous author of the poems of MS Cotton Nero A X (Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, Patience, Cleanness). However, the vast bulk of Middle English poetry remains anonymous.
